Access to early education and care can provide critical support for families experiencing homelessness. Head Start is one such resource, providing early education, health, nutrition, and family services to eligible children and families.

Proposed changes to Head Start would remove a provision allowing programs to reserve up to 3% of enrollment slots for children experiencing homelessness and children in foster care, along with an enrollment flexibility related to age documentation. A recent @npr article explores what these changes could mean for families experiencing homelessness through the story of one mother who found Head Start through @transforminglivesfw.

This week, Carol Klocek, CEO of the Center for Transforming Lives, will join us at National Women`s Shelter Network conference for “Early Education and Care: Supporting Our Youngest Learners,” a conversation about how shelters and community partners can support young children experiencing homelessness.
