The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as “the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.” SNAP has been one of the most effective tools in reducing food insecurity for households throughout the United States, but that effectiveness could be at risk due to new federal rules and regulations around the program.
