DHS Census Daily Report 9/5/2022

Follow ICPH on Instagram

The City’s latest Preliminary Mayor’s Management Report (PMMR), which covers the first four months of Fiscal Year 2026 (July–October 2025), shows a decline in families with children living in DHS shelters, with a daily average of 17,909 families—driven in part by increased placements into subsidized permanent housing.

That trend has continued beyond the PMMR reporting period. In the six months since October 2025, the number of families in shelter has decreased by an additional 6%.

This progress suggests that expanded access to permanent housing through sustained investment in affordable, subsidized homes—like housing vouchers—can impact the number of families in shelter.
